Gatlin Dubbed National Player of the Week

PALATINE, Ill. – Harper men's basketball point guard Marcus Gatlin (Chicago, Ill./Curie) is the unquestioned team leader. The sophomore has also been a dominant force on the court all season long, showing off her versatility as a scorer, rebounder, and passer.

Gatlin, who is already a two-time NJCAA Region IV Div. III Men's Basketball Player of the Week, added another accomplishment to his Harper College career last week. He was bestowed the prestigious honor of NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball National Player of the Week.


4396Facing some stiff competition to start the calendar year, Gatlin still put up impressive numbers. In three games, he averaged 19.7 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 8.0 RPG, and 2.7 SPG in 37.7 MPG.

The sophomore helped lead the Hawks to an 89-82 victory over Elgin Community College Jan. 4 as he totaled 17 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. He then had a 24-point, seven-rebound performance two days later against No. 1 Rock Valley College. Later that week, Gatlin put up 18 points, nine assists, and six rebounds against No. 9 (Div. II) Triton College.

Gatlin was named the NJCAA Region IV Div. III Men's Basketball Player of the Week on both Dec. 14 and Jan. 4.
