Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – The sophomore trio of Marcus Gatlin (Chicago, Ill./Curie), Allias Burnett (Joliet, Ill. /Joliet West), and Abdul Mushtaq (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) was determined to get its first N4C win of the 2015-16 season at Wilbur Wright College on Wednesday evening. The three combined for 67 points, leading the Harper men's basketball team to a 74-64 victory over Wright.
Gatlin led the way with a game-high 27 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Allias Burnett (Joliet, Ill. /Joliet West) poured in 25 points (10-of-17 shooting) and grabbed 10 rebounds while dishing out five assists. Mushtaq had his first double-double of his career as he canned five 3-points en route to a 15-point, 12-rebound performance.
Harper (10-9, 1-2 N4C) took a 7-6 lead in the early going and then used a 13-0 run to build up a big advantage. The Hawks never trailed the rest of the game and led 35-21 at halftime.
The Hawks' biggest lead of the game was 21 points on two occasions. Wright (1-14, 0-3 N4C) pulled to within nine at 68-59 with 1:04 to play, but Gatlin made 6-of-6 free throws in the final minute to seal the win. Terrance King paced the Rams with a team-high 24 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
Harper outrebounded Wright, 41-36, and shot 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from the field. Wright shot 41.3 percent (26-of-63).
The Hawks return to their home court on Saturday afternoon as they face off with conference foe College of DuPage (13-4, 1-2 N4C). Tipoff is scheduled for 3 PM.
