Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. – The Harper College women's basketball team went up against a strong Kennedy-King College team on Thursday. The Statesman stayed unbeaten at home with a 64-50 victory over the Hawks.
Harper (5-7) kept it close in the opening minutes. Joslyn Nicholson (/Cary-Grove)'s layup with 16:53 left in the first half tied the game at 4-4, but Kennedy-King (12-1) used a 9-0 run to build a comfortable lead. The Hawks trimmed the deficit to 29-23 with 1:27 left on a pair of Nicholson free throws, but KKC closed on a 7-0 run to take a 36-23 lead into halftime.
The Statesmen dominated the first 12 minutes of the second half, outscoring Harper 24-9 to take their biggest lead of the game at 60-32. The Hawks finished the game on an 18-4 run. Point guard Kim Herzog (/Buffalo Grove) scored nine of her 11 points in that span.
Nicholson scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season. Ashonte Sims (/Normal Community West) added 13 points. Jalisa Hayes paced Kennedy-King with 19 points, and Antania Hayes had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
