WARRENVILLE, Ill. – Led by a first place finish from Juan Barajas (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Schaumburg), the Harper College men's cross country team captured third place overall the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational on Friday. The Hawks scored 81 points to finish as the top junior college and behind only four-year schools North Central College (31 points) and Aurora University (80 points).
Competing with several strong runners from four-year schools, Barajas ran a PR of 25:36.43 on the 8K course at the St. James Farm Forest Preserve to beat out Carthage College's Mike Von Borstel (25:38.45). Brennan Albuck (/Hoffman Estates) also ran an excellent race for Harper, placing 11th overall in a PR time of 26:21.50.
Zach Stella (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) finished as Harper's third runner with a 21st place finish in a PR of 26:36.54. Adam Brauer (Palatine, lll./Palatine) came in next with a 25th place finish in a PR of 26:42.92. Emil Koziekewicz rounded out the scoring for the Hawks, placing 48th overall in a PR time of 27:30.89.
Several other Harper runners had strong showings: John Majerus (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) (58th, 27:54.86), Connor Williams (/Wauconda) (101st, 29:11.23), Omar Alhayek (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (106th, 29:25.89), Jordy Arriaga (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) (127th, 30:17.20) and T.J. Paton (Fairfield, Calif./Hersey) (30:19.54).
The men's team runs next at the Bradley Classic on Friday, Oct. 17 at 3 PM.
